In conversation with John Brian (Brian) Higgerty on the phone in Dec., '95 I learned that George was the National President of the Liberal Party at one time. He was heavy into politics. He was to have also once said, "There is more politics in Higgerty Shoe Store than in the House of Commons."

Note for:   Jane Higgerty,   16 JAN 1876 - 17 FEB 1940
Index

***In 1881 Census Jane was shown as Jenne of 5 years old. It had to be the same person because there is no other child that could have been Jenne. The date of birth which at 5 years old would have been 1876 conflicted with the date I had in the computer for Jane which was 1880. The 1880 came from her marriage certificate which listed her as being 24 when she got married 12 Oct., 1904. I decided to go with the date of birth from the Census information***

In the 1901 Census for Ottawa she is shown as Jeannie and her birth date is January 16, 1876.

Jane on marriage certificate.

Jane on the obituary of husband, McClory. Jane on her obituary.

Educated at Gloucester Street Convent. A member of many church organizations and had many friends, especially in the Sandy Hill district where she was highly regsarded.

Met with him and his son William (Jim) Nov. 26, 1994. He had some interesting information. Referred to the East Higgerty clan and the west Higgerty clan. This is because half the Higgerty's lived at 54 Somerset and the other half lived at 622 Somerset. Said we have a relative in Alberta, John P. Higgerty, who is the crown prosecutor for the province. He is of the other clan than me. Said Frank was killed by a torpedo ship on his was back to Canada after visiting family in Ireland after WWI.

Dec 17, '95

On the phone last week with Peter, he told me that when he was on the phone with Norah Higgerty she told him something. She said that Thomas Harris and his siblings and cousins would all be shipped off to summer in the Laurentians by their grandmother Mary Honan. Patrick Harris and James Claire used to tease the hell out of Bud (Thomas James). They teased him so bad he wanted to have nothing to do with that part of the family. That was supposed to have something to do with the fact he was cold to Norah when she inquired with him about the tree and also his lack of interest to my efforts.
