of December, 1995.

Note for: Frederick Charles Higgerty, 3
NOV 1893 - 30 NOV 1917 Index
March 20, 1996. John Brian Higgerty phoned me tonight. One of the
things he told me was that he had once seen a memorial with the name of
Fred Higgerty on it. This was in Wainwright (sp?), Manitoba. Bob Gale
said Fred is not commemorated by the war graves commission. I talked to
them on phone and they confirmed that. This memorial would show he did
die in WW1 and might play a part in remedying the situation.
April 28, 1996
I dealt w/ National archives and received Fred's service file. He was
discharged from Canadian Expeditionary Force on August 28th 1917 in
London England. He was said to have had 'very good' military character
on his discharge paper. He then went on to become a 2nd Lieutenant for
the Imperial Army (British).
I dealt w/ the Commonweath War Graves Commission and recieved much
information from them. Fred is commemorated on the British side of the
CWGC. He has no known grave and thus commemorated on the Cambrai
Memorial, France.
Right now I have a call into DND - Honours & Awards to see if he (and
Francis Edward) received any medals. Also I wrote a letter to Ministry
of Defence, Army Records Office, in England to get Fred's service file
for when he was w/ the Brits.
-his next of kin was listed as an uncle J. P. McKibbin in Cartwright,
MAN, CAN.
-5 ft 9 inches tall, dark complaxion, dark grey eyes, dark hair.

He never knew why his middle name was Iris. As per my phone conversation
with John Brian Higgerty on Dec. 12 or 13, 1995.
Was called Hap or Happy because of his personality.
Was orphaned as his parents had turburculosis and died at a young age.
Was in a Franch orphanage and became bilingual.
Was taken in by family of Henry H. Higgerty and grew up at 54 Somerset.
Was given money from the estate of Mary Elizabeth Higgerty along with
only her siblings (or if dead their children). He was apparently close
with the children of Henry H. Higgerty.

I found Patrick on the internet in February 1996 and at the time didn't

with my genealogy mail. In 1983 he moved from Ottawa to Calgary to
practice law. He is one of two lawyers practicing law in Alberta.
